Danielle Ate the Sandwich is Danielle Anderson, a singer-songwriter from Nebraska. Danielle gained notoriety early on through her YouTube performances of original and cover songs and has since released 5 independent albums of original music. She has toured and recorded as a full time professional musician since 2009. Danielle’s YouTube channel aptly bills itself as “Serious Folk Songs, Silly Everything Else”.
Most recently, Danielle composed the original soundtrack to the HBO documentary film Packed in a Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson, and released the soundtrack as a full length album. While her music has traditionally been relatively lighthearted, Packed in a Trunk finds Danielle in more of a meditative mood. The result is a truly beautiful and moving body of music.
While ukulele is her instrument of choice, Danielle’s music is more about her voice than the instrument. Her singing voice has been called “clear and beautiful, almost unbelievable” by The Red Alert. And next to her powerful voice, Danielle’s lyrics complete the picture, at times witty, funny, sardonic and insightful.
The video below is one of my favorite DATS songs. “When Our Parents Die” showcases the amazing blend of vocal control, spare musicianship and lyrics that apply to everyone but feel like they were written just for you.
